In March, new vegan restaurant SxNW (South by Northwest) is set to open in Portland, OR. The new eatery is a partnership between the owner of Seattle’s Cycle Dogs, Keaton Tucker, and Wayward Vegan Cafe, Doh Driver. SxNW will offer a southern and southwestern menu featuring dishes such as Texas Beer Bread with herb butter, Santa Fe Dip Burger, Fried Chick’n Sandwiches, and Texas Chili with cornbread.
The eatery will start with a limited take-out menu before expanding to a more robust outdoor dining menu this summer. “COVID has changed the start-up landscape and our menu will reflect that as we want to be cautious,” Tucker told VegNews. The expanded summer menu will offer additional dishes such as Green Chili Enchiladas with salad, Chick’n Fried Steak with Country Gravy, Mushroom Scallops with Cream of Cilantro Soup, fried okra, and hush puppies, along with desserts such as Dr. Pepper Cake and bread pudding. A summer brunch menu will offer breakfast burritos, vegan chicken and waffles, and biscuit sandwiches.
A vegan takeover
SxNW takes over the space of former vegan restaurant No Bones Beach Club, which closed due to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. “MacKenzie DeVito (owner of No Bones Beach Club) approached me about the Portland space,” Tucker said. “She’s been a great mentor to me over the years. I’m forever grateful for what she has shown me and the help she has offered.” Tucker is also taking over the No Bones restaurant in Seattle to expand Cycle Dogs into a permanent space.
