Starting December 13, Del Taco Restaurants, Inc. will add vegan meat options to the menu of 16 locations in San Diego. Del Taco first tested the options—which feature a proprietary blend made with Beyond Meat vegan meat crumbles—in two Los Angeles locations in September. “With a growing demand for vegan and vegetarian options among our guests, we saw an opportunity within the space to partner with Beyond Meat to develop a proprietary blend of seasoned, 100-percent plant-based meat,” John Cappasola, President and Chief Executive Officer of Del Taco, said. “After receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback from fans during our pilot test in Los Angeles, it only made sense to introduce our Beyond Tacos to a larger SoCal community.” San Diego customers can now order the Beyond Avocado Taco (vegan without modification), Beyond Taco (made vegan by omitting cheese), and can request Beyond Meat as a substitution for meat in other menu options such as nachos, burritos, and fries. “We are always looking for new and innovative ways to elevate our menu, and are excited to offer this plant-based alternative to even more of our fans—whether they are vegan, vegetarian, or just looking to switch things up—without sacrificing quality and taste,” Cappasola said. “If our San Diego test is successful, we look forward to potentially expanding our Beyond Taco test even further in the near future.” Del Taco is also expanding the offering to three locations in Orange, San Bernardino, and Riverside counties in California.
