Starting August 8, the plant-based Impossible Whopper will be available at all locations of Burger King nationwide. On April 1, Burger King added the Impossible Whopper to the menu of 59 St. Louis, MO locations to test the meat-free option with consumers. The Impossible Whopper features a flame-grilled Impossible Burger 2.0 patty topped with sliced tomatoes, lettuce, mayonnaise, ketchup, pickles, and onions on a toasted sesame-seed bun—and can be made vegan if ordered without the mayonnaise. After seeing an increase of foot traffic by 18.5 percent to its St. Louis locations, by the end of April, Burger King announced that it would gradually expand the Impossible Whopper nationwide and added the burger to outposts in Miami, FL, Columbus, GA, Montgomery, AL, San Francisco, CA. The completion of the nationwide rollout to more than 7,200 locations was made possible by a new partnership between Impossible Foods and OSI Group, a longtime meat supplier for McDonald’s that is helping the plant-based company produce enough of its burgers to meet demand. Burger King is offering the Impossible Whopper ($5.59) as a limited-time option and will monitor national demand for several months to determine if the plant-based burger will remain as a permanent menu item. “[The Impossible Whopper] has driven new guests into the restaurant,” Chris Finazzo, Burger King’s president for the Americas, told CNN Business. “We’re really excited to be able to attract that customer.” Impossible Burgers will also debut on store shelves in September.
