California-based global burger franchise Fatburger added Impossible Foods’ Impossible Burger patty this week to the menu at five Southern California locations. The Impossible Burger will join the chain’s Veggieburger option—a choice between Gardenburger and vegan Boca Burger patties—and will be served with traditional toppings including lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise, mustard, onion, pickles, and relish, with additional add-ons upon request. The burger can be made vegan by removing the mayonnaise and ordering it without the bun on a “fry boat” (or bed of fries), or as a “Skinnyburger” (where two Impossible Burger patties replace the bun). Impossible Burger launched last year at higher-end restaurants in New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco and has since rapidly expanded—due in part to its new state-of-the-art production facility in Oakland—to various eateries, including international burger chain Bareburger. The company aims to reach 1,000 points of distribution by the end of the year and replace all food animals by 2035.
