Federal Gov. Says Neigh to Horse Slaughter Funding
If a recent vote by US House Appropriations Committee survives the legislative process, killing horses for human consumption will be prohibited in the US.

The prospect of horse slaughter returning to the US may be permanently put on hold due to a recent move by the US House Appropriations Committee, which voted not to allocate any funds to the inspection of equine slaughter houses. According to The Humane Society of the United States, this will save US taxpayers approximately $5 million. Nearly eight years ago the federal government issued a similar statute, but the funding-block was not renewed in 2011, which led some US farmers and food industry workers to attempt to open horse slaughter facilities earlier this year.
