This week, vegan seafood brand Good Catch Foods launched its frozen appetizers and entrées at 640 retailers across Canada, including Loblaws (the country’s largest grocery chain), Provigo, Dominion, and more. Canadian customers can now purchase New England Style Plant-Based Crabless Cakes, Thai Style Plant-Based Fishless Cakes, and Classic Style Plant-Based Fishless Burgers for a suggested retail price of CAD$7.99 each. The vegan fish featured in the frozen meals is made with a blend of six legumes (peas, chickpeas, lentils, soy, fava beans, and navy beans) which create a flaky texture that mimics traditional seafood.

“40 percent of Canadians are actively incorporating more plant-based foods into their diets,”  Christine Mei, CEO of Good Catch parent company Gathered Foods, said. “And we look forward to surprise and delight these consumers with the taste, texture, and comparable protein of our Good Catch offerings. Our team has been diligently working on expanding our international presence to meet the increasing demand for plant-based alternatives globally. We are so pleased to make our first entry into the Canadian market.”

Good Catch was founded in the United States by chef brothers Chad and Derek Sarno with the mission of saving the world’s oceans from overfishing and eliminating animal cruelty in the seafood industry. Last year, the brand launched vegan tuna pouches in Mediterranean, Naked in Water, and Oil & Herbs flavors in the US retail sector. This month, Good Catch secured its first restaurant partnership and launched a vegan tuna sandwich at Veggie Grill locations nationwide.

The frozen entrées and appetizers are also currently available for a suggested retail price of $5.99 at select East Coast retailers in the US, with wider distribution planned later this year.
