Grammy Award-winning musician Ahmir Khalib Thompson (professionally known as “Questlove” of iconic band The Roots) partnered with events company Live Nation to create the Questlove Cheesesteak—his take on the classic Philadelphia sandwich but made with the newest iteration of plant-based Impossible Meat. The sandwich will first be available on March 28 at the Citizen Bank Park in Philadelphia during the opening game of The Philadelphia Phillies—and all 80 home games thereafter—before expanding nationwide to the menu of 40 Live Nation-owned venues. “We first tested out this product at our annual Roots Picnic music festival in Philly in 2018. Without any forewarning, we offered the Cheesesteak in our VIP area which was mainly populated with friends and family and no one believed me when I told them the ‘meat’ was not beef, but plant-based,” Thompson said. “My team and I saw an opportunity to roll out the product on a much larger level. To have the Phillies and Live Nation as our initial partners is great as it speaks to my love for my hometown of Philadelphia combined with my love of music.” Thompson says this launch is just the beginning, with the ultimate goal being to launch Questlove Cheesesteaks at venues, restaurants, and retailers worldwide. In addition to Impossible Meat, the Questlove Cheesesteak is served with peppers, onions, and dairy-based cheese. A spokesperson for Live Nation told VegNews that guests are advised to check with venues for possible customizations, including ordering the sandwich without cheese. Last year, Live Nation added the Impossible Burger to the menu of 37 of its concert venues complete with a “vegan” stamp to assure guests that the burger does not contain animal products.
