Wayne Pacelle, the CEO of the Humane Society of the United States, was recently included in The Nonprofit Times’ “Power and Influence Top 50” list, which showcases executives who have affected great change in their realms of beneficiary work. Pacelle and his organization have struggled tirelessly against the inhumane practices of the factory farming industry, notably the anti-whistleblower ag-gag bills that were introduced this year in courts across the country. “Pacelle is fighting back against the shadowy individuals who use nonprofits as a cloak to attack the sector with half-truths and in some cases straight-out lies,” notes The Nonprofit Times, referring to the smear campaigns that have targeted animal-welfare advocates. Other executives who made the list include Bill Gates of the Gates Foundation, Brian Gallagher of United Way Worldwide, and Neil Nicoll of the YMCA.
