In an effort to show how beautiful chickens are, Italian photographer Dan Bannino’s newest series “Chic Chicks” focuses entirely on Paduan chickens from Padova, Italy. “In modern society, food is highly industrialized and often comes to our tables in a completely different shape from its original form,” Bannino told the Huffington Post. “I wanted to use this particular style to underline the fact that some of us don’t even know how beautiful a ‘common’ chicken is.” Bannino implores dramatic lighting and shadows to showcase the birds’ impressive plumage, which helps create a “glam” effect. The artist also revealed that his “surprisingly patient and collaborative” models made him realize that his main focus is “not to spoil and respect the wonderful things that mother nature give us every day.”
