This month, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream added its newest vegan flavor, Caramel Pecan Sticky Buns, to its scoop shops and as pints available for purchase ($12 each) online. The new flavor takes inspiration from the iconic morning pastry and is made with a coconut cream base that is dotted with soft pieces of sticky buns, along with salted and roasted pecans, and generous ribbons of dark caramel sauce that evokes the flavor of burnt sugar. “I wanted to create a flavor that will delight customers, even those who love dairy. The star is really our high-quality coconut cream, which gives the whole flavor a lush, almost velvety body,” Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream Founder Jeni Britton Bauer told VegNews. “Then it’s all about building texture—a dark caramel sauce with deep burnt-sugar flavor, crunchy roasted pecans, and soft flecks of sticky bun.” After five years in development, Jeni’s launched its first coconut cream-based vegan line last March in three flavors: Cold Brew Coffee with Coconut Swirl; Texas Sheet Cake; and Roasted Peanut Butter and Strawberry Jam.
