Meat brand Jimmy Dean is looking into launching a plant-based meat line, according to company marketing director Steve Silzer. “We definitely see an opportunity for plant-based proteins and the Jimmy Dean brand to intersect,” Silzer told Foodnavigator-USA. “We definitely see plant-based proteins as a supplement to our current offerings. As consumers are still seeking protein, but they’re getting it in different ways. We’re exploring that space and confident that you’ll see some plant-based protein offerings coming from the Jimmy Dean brand.” Jimmy Dean’s plant-based meat line will follow a developing trend of traditional meat brands launching meatless lines. This month alone, both Hormel (known for its pork-based SPAM products) and Smithfield (the world’s largest pork producer) launched their own plant-based meat lines under Happy Little Plants and Pure Farmland brands, respectively.
