Today, Los Angeles-based burger shop Burgerlords reopens as an all-vegan eatery. The shop—which has locations in Chinatown and Highland Park—previously offered a diverse menu consisting of both beef and vegan burgers, French fries, milkshakes, and tofu nuggets. “I’ve been vegetarian since I was about 8 years old,” Burgerlords Owner Frederick Guerrero told VegNews. “Growing up working in my family’s restaurant, I always wanted to have my own place that represented how I ate. We’ve gone back and forth with the idea of going all vegan with the restaurants, so we figured that now was good of time as any to make the leap. Sure there are other factors related to COVID-19, but it was ultimately about having a business that I felt in control of and could really take ownership of.”

Burgerlords’ new, all-vegan menu features the same vegan options previously offered along with new items such as a Buffalo Ranch Tofu Burger (a battered tofu patty with Frank’s Red Hot Buffalo Sauce, house-made vegan ranch, and carrot-celery slaw on a sponge bun); a Sourdough Garlic Melt (a house-made vegan patty with Follow Your Heart cheese, grilled onions, garlic oil, and 2,000 Island dressing on rustic sourdough); The Brainburner (a spicy burger collaboration with streetwear clothing brand Braindead); and custom tahini-based milkshakes in Original, Chocolate, Stumptown Coffee, and Strawberry Shortcake flavors. The chain’s house-made signature patties consist of a mix of 30 ingredients, including grains, vegetables, and nuts, including barley, shiitake, eggplant, carrots, celery, leeks, red bell peppers, cashews, almonds, and chickpeas. Both LA locations are currently open for walk-up service and delivery.
