This morning, American travellers landing at London’s Heathrow airport were in for a Thanksgiving surprise at baggage claim. The airport installed “Happy Thanksgiving” signs across Terminal 5 and loaded baggage claim conveyors with mini pumpkin pies courtesy of Whole Foods Market. The airport provided plant-based (and gluten-free) options to make sure that vegans were not excluded from the event. “Thanksgiving is the busiest time of year for our seven UK grocery stores, as American expats seek out the tastes and traditions of home,” Jade Hoai, Director of Purchasing and Operations for Whole Foods Market UK, said. “Partnering with the iconic Heathrow [airport] to bring the spirit of the day to their travellers has been a great experience for our team.” This year, nearly one-third of Americans are considering leaving meat off of their Thanksgiving tables, according to a study commissioned by UK vegan brand The Meatless Farm.
