Mýa is back. The Grammy Award-winning musician has just released Retrospect, her first new album in nearly a decade, and to celebrate, she has a packed summer of performances ahead of her. And while life on the road—with its long days and late nights—can be demanding, the singer recently said that she plans to stay grounded with plenty of sleep, exercise, and, of course, nourishing plant-based foods.
It’s no surprise: Mýa has been a passionate vegan for more than a decade, after previously spending years as a vegetarian. She has long spoken openly about the physical and mental benefits of the lifestyle and has even created guides to help others transition to a plant-based diet. In 2017, she launched her own 14-day challenge—similar to Veganuary—to encourage people to ditch meat for good. The prize? Vegan breakfast, lunch, and dinner with Mýa herself.
During her upcoming run of summer shows, Mýa said she’ll be fueling her body with plenty of whole plant-based foods, including her signature chickpea salads. “Vegan is worldwide,” she told USA Today. “Touring is a little different, but I’ve done raw vegan challenges, alkaline vegan challenges worldwide while I’m touring the world. My veganism will not change because that’s a spiritual choice for life.”

Musicians embrace veganism on the road
Veganism has also been in the spotlight recently thanks to fellow musician Billie Eilish, who has used her own tour as a platform to promote plant-based food and sustainable living.
In fact, like Mýa, Eilish often uses her fame to encourage others to give up meat. Over the course of her tour, she reportedly persuaded several venues to go completely vegan and secured pledges from around 36,000 fans to eat one plant-based meal a day for 30 days.
According to Eilish, the impact has been profoundly rewarding. “The amount of times I’ve met fans who have told me, ‘My whole family became vegan because of you. We had no idea it was such an enormous part of the climate crisis,” she told National Geographic recently. “Or when someone says, ‘You know, I work as an activist because of this thing that I saw you posted.’”

Mýa and Eilish aren’t alone, though. They are among several musicians using their platforms to promote plant-based eating and veganism. Most recently, Travis Barker, drummer for Blink-182, announced he was joining vegan fast-food chain Mr. Charlie’s as an equity partner and brand ambassador.
“Mr. Charlie’s isn’t just another food concept—it’s a movement,” said Barker. “What they’re building across food, culture, and community resonates with me. I’m excited to help take it to the next level.”
