Award-winning musician Shaffer Chimere Smith (professionally known as “Ne-Yo”) recently credited his plant-based diet to curing his tendonitis. Smith was diagnosed with the illness prior to adopting a plant-based diet—sparked by watching the film What the Health last year—and explained to media outlet Essence that his symptoms drastically improved after two weeks of not consuming animal products. “It was to the point where I couldn’t even bend my legs after rehearsals,” Smith said. “I’ve been vegan for about a year now. I know it’s not for everybody, but it works just fine for me.” In addition to Smith, a number of performers have credited veganism for vastly improved physical health, including director Kevin Smith, who ceased eating animal products after surviving a “widowmaker” heart attack earlier this year.
