Canadian-born vegan actress Pamela Anderson is urging the country’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to go vegan and offering her expertise to help. This week, Anderson wrote the Canadian leader a letter on behalf of animal-rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. “Were you to drop meat and dairy from your personal diet—which I so hope you will—I would be honored to be your mentor and to suggest some of the tasty, diverse vegan foods proudly produced in Canada,” Anderson wrote.

The letter comes after Trudeau’s recent announcement that Canada would invest $100 million into Merit Functional Foods, which creates ingredients for plant-based foods. “As people around the world start eating more plant-based products, we have an opportunity to bring together Canadian innovation and Canadian crops, and a chance to create good, well-paying jobs,” Trudeau said during the announcement. “Standing up for hard-working farmers, creating good jobs, setting up Canada for success on the world stage—these are things that our government will always get behind.”

In her letter, Anderson praised Trudeau for moving Canada in the right direction, particularly amid the ongoing pandemic where slaughterhouses worldwide have become hot spots of COVID-19 cases. “Sensuality includes being engaged in the world and caring about others’ feelings, and nothing is sexier than compassion. Your recent decision to invest another $100 million in our mushrooming plant-based industries fits that description—and that puts Canada on top when it comes to promoting a humane and healthy diet,” Anderson wrote. “Your fiscally responsible move not only creates good jobs for Canadians but also spares countless animals a terrible life and death. As COVID-19 has exposed serious health risks associated with factory farms and slaughterhouses, the world needs more sensible leaders like you, who are willing to embrace clean, compassionate, and clever food solutions.”
