People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has offered the St. Louis Police Department $1,000 worth of vegan ice cream for its community outreach. The police department unveiled its “Operation Polar Cops” ice cream truck in July as a way to engage with the local community in St. Louis, MO—but the animal-rights group recently sent a letter to St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson urging the department to consider almond-, coconut-, and soy-based options. “PETA hopes the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department scoops up this sweet deal to help residents beat the heat and their odds for developing heart disease,” said PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. “It would be a crime to miss out on delicious dairy-free ice cream—a summer treat that gives everyone a lucky break.”
