Philadelphia’s thriving vegan scene is not only making the City of Brotherly Love a destination for compassionate travelers, the Tourism Board is now officially promoting Philly’s meat-free offerings. In Visit Philadelphia’s new Veg Out guide, the organization provides an extensive list of bars, shops, and restaurants in an effort to attract the cruelty-free crowd. With Zagat naming Vedge—an upscale vegan eatery—the top-rated restaurant in Philadelphia in 2014, Philly.com’s annual vegan cheesesteak contest, and the opening of several vegan dining spots, Visit Philadelphia’s CEO Meryl Levitz calls veganism a “true trend” and cites out-the-door lines at vegetarian establishments as evidence.
