During a recent episode of television drama series Blue Bloods, the Reagan family sat down to a meal of plant-based burgers.

The scene shows Frank Reagan (played by Tom Selleck) opening his burger with a knife and fork to reveal the plant-based burger patty. “No offense, Eddie, it’s not the same,” Selleck said. Eddie (played by Vanessa Ray), who made the dinner, quickly realized that her in-laws were not receptive to trying new things. “You could all stand to take a heart-healthy break once in a while,” she asserted. Henry (played by Len Cariou) asks Eddie what it’s made of. “Mung bean, brown rice, sunflower …,” she responded. “Wait a minute. Mung bean? What the hell is mung bean?” Danny (played by Donnie Wahlberg) asked her. “It tastes really good, I’m serious,” Eddie emphasized, “and it’s better for you, and for the planet.” But Erin (played by Bridget Moynahan) points out: “Reagan men have a lot of strengths but embracing change is not one of them.” The discussion prompts Henry to finally try the plant-based burger. “Okay, that’s enough. I’m going to try mung on a bun,” he said then took a bite. “Not bad, actually.”
