Canadian-based vegan milk brand Veggemo—under parent company Global Gardens Group, Inc.— partnered with Canadian supermarket chain Loblaws to bring their vegetable-based milk to 400 stores across Canada. Veggemo will be stocked in the natural foods section, which Global Gardens Group CEO Rob Harrison says is perfect placement for advancing the goals of both companies. “Loblaw’s purpose [is to] support the needs and well-being of Canadians,” Harrison says, adding that the new product speaks to the demand of “consumers making healthier food choices.” Veggemo—made using a blend of potatoes, cassava root, and pea protein—debuted in Canada in 2015, and aims to gain distribution in the US through online retailers such as Amazon, along with traditional retail markets. Meanwhile, the humble potato is gaining traction as a dairy alternative with the recent introduction of Chato, a potato-based cheese created by Australian developer Andrew Dyhin.
