Caramelized Onions

Caramelized onions add depth atop mushroom burgers, or can be eaten on their own.

The scent of onions caramelizing in your kitchen will make guests feel right at home. Try these on portobello sliders, or use them as a side dish to complete any holiday feast.

Makes approximately 1 cup

What you need:

4 large onions, thinly sliced
3 tablespoons olive oil
1/8 teaspoon salt

What you do:

In a medium large saucepan over medium-high heat, heat olive oil. Add onions and sprinkle with salt. Over medium to medium-low heat, cook for 45 minutes to an hour, stirring and scraping brown bits off bottom of pan every few minutes to ensure onions are not burning. Onions are done when they are soft, brown, and sweet.
