Multinational brand Danone will debut an oat milk line under its vegan brand Silk in January at major retailers, including Walmart, Target, Publix, and Sprouts. The new Silk Oat Yeah line will be available in three flavors: The Plain One, The Vanilla One, and The Chocolate One, each enriched with Vitamin D, Calcium, and B12. The Oat Yeah line competes directly with Swedish brand Oatly, which is currently ramping up production in the United States to meet the overwhelming demand for its oat-based products. In 2016, Danone completed its $12.5 billion acquisition of WhiteWave—parent company of vegan brands Silk, So Delicious, Vega, and Alpro—and has since shifted to produce more plant-based products. This month, Danone debuted its Good Plants yogurt line (a vegan subsidiary of its Light & Fit brand) and plans to launch a coconut milk-based alternative to its Oikos brand yogurt in January, with kid-friendly vegan products scheduled to debut later in 2019.
