Coffee giant Starbucks is now testing vegan cashew milk cream cheese from Miyoko’s Creamery at one location in Issaquah, WA just east of Seattle. The 1.5-ounce packages come in exclusive Everything and Cinnamon Raisin flavors and retail for $1. The vegan menu addition comes at the tail end of the year Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson declared the company would be taking proactive steps toward increasing sustainability, including shifting away from dairy to plant-based alternatives. In response to an audit of Starbucks that determined dairy is responsible for 21 percent of the chain’s carbon footprint, Johnson confirmed that “alternative milks will be a big part of the solution. The consumer-demand curve is already shifting.”
