British vegan brand Moving Mountains Foods will launch a vegan pork sausage in restaurants across the United Kingdom this year. The Moving Mountains Banger is made with a base of pea protein, oyster mushrooms, and coconut oil and mimics its pork-based counterpart in the way it tastes and cooks. “We are delighted to launch the 100-percent plant-based Moving Mountains Banger,” company founder Simeon Van der Molen said. “We have spent years perfecting the recipe with a team of scientists, farmers, and chefs and it is the closest replication to a pork sausage in the UK. It provides a real solution to the environmental impact of the animal agriculture industry, without compromising on taste for vegans, vegetarians, and meat-eaters.” In early 2018, Moving Mountains unveiled its first product, the vegan B12 Burger, after two years in development. By September 2018, the company’s Beyond Burger-inspired flagship product secured a £1 million ($1.28 million) distribution deal with 413-location pub chain Marston’s before expanding to other restaurants, including select locations of Hard Rock Cafe. Prior to launching its newest sausage, Moving Mountains debuted a 10-inch long Frankfurter-style sausage at vegan restaurant Unity Diner in Shoreditch before expanding it into the retail sector. Next week, Brits will get their first taste of California-based brand Beyond Meat’s vegan sausages which will be available at more than 400 Tesco stores across the UK.
