Clara Foods, a San Francisco-based sustainable food company, has raised $1.75 million to develop an “un-comprised” vegan egg white with parallel nutritional value to traditional eggs. By “taking the chicken out of the equation,” Clara Foods will address “the growing concern for the environmental, animal welfare, and public health compromises of industrial-scale egg production.” Company CEO Arturo Elizando says that “from the onset, Clara was founded on a fundamental belief that we can cultivate a better and safer food system using technology.” Clara Foods joins Modern Meadow, Hampton Creek, and Muufri as the latest cruelty-free biotech company to receive substantial funding.
