Newly vegan professional car driver Lewis Hamilton won the Formula One World Championship last weekend. Hamilton adopted a plant-based diet in September after viewing vegan documentary What The Health in an effort to improve his athletic performance. “One of the things that probably is a benefit is that it’s much easier to keep your weight down if you’re following a plant-based diet,” sports nutritionist Nigel Mitchell told British media outlet Daily Mail. “I’ve worked in Formula One, and a lot of the drivers are really trying to minimize their weight so they’re faster in the car.” The transition has proven beneficial for Hamilton, and the four-time Formula One world champion credited his new diet for a win at the United States Grand Prix last month, stating, “I feel the best I’ve ever felt physically and mentally.”
