Prince Khaled bin Alwaleed bin Talal was named the “Technology Investor of the Year” during the CEO Middle East Awards last week. Prince Khaled founded KBW Ventures, a mission-driven firm, which has made investments into plant-based brand Beyond Meat and fish-free aquarium CGI concept National Geographic Encounter: Ocean Odyssey—which the vegan prince plans to expand to 10 regions in the Middle East in his effort to end animal exploitation for the purpose of entertainment. In addition to his investments through KBW, Prince Khaled has undertaken several initiatives in his fight for animal rights. Prince Khaled partnered with vegan chef Matthew Kenney to launch an innovative plant-based menu, Folia, at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills Hotel this summer—a concept that Prince Khaled says is part of a larger initiative. The prince also plans to fight the obesity epidemic in the Middle East by opening 10 vegan restaurants in the region by 2020.
