Vegan eatery Dell’z on the Macon opened in December in Charleston, SC. The restaurant is operated by Smarel Nicole—daughter of Maudell “Dell” Grayson, who owns vegetarian restaurant Dell’z Uptown. The new eatery’s soul food-inspired menu features dishes such as “Jazzy” pizzas, hearty bowls, salads, nachos, and “uncheese” cake. “Soul food began with healthy eating,” Nicole told Eater. “Good food is good food.” Dell’z partnered with local nonprofit Metanoia to offer its dishes on a “pay what you can” basis, which means that customers can purchase the same portion for $4, $5, or $6. The eatery also offers a “Pay it Forward” option in which a customer can choose to prepay for a meal for a person in need. The family-owned Dell’z Restaurant Group, LLC plans to open a third eatery this year.
