Austin-based brand Lantana Foods announced this week the launch of its newest product—a strawberry-flavored hummus it will promote for Valentine’s Day—at grocery chains H-E-B and Jewel-Osco. The hummus is made with non-GMO ingredients including white beans, strawberries, white balsamic vinegar, and basil. “Our mission at Lantana is to bring innovation and bold flavor to the hummus category with unexpected combinations that are bright, healthy, and delicious,” Lantana CEO Matt Gase said. The brand also makes hummus in flavors such as Extra Spicy 3-Pepper, Spicy Yellow Lentil, and Sriracha Carrot. The idea of dessert hummus is not entirely new. In October, vegan brand Delighted by Hummus raised $600,000 in capital on reality show Shark Tank to expand its product line, which includes hummus in flavors such as Brownie Batter, Snickerdoodle, Vanilla Bean, and Choco-Mint.
