If there was ever a doubt that we are living in the digital age, a look at modern mating rituals should help clear the confusion. Today’s romantic flirtations take shape on Twitter and leap to next-level love over Instagram. Skype dates precede evenings on Pinterest—the preferred destination for sourcing dapper wool-free suits and dreamy I-do dresses. And gone are the forest-depleting invitations, supplanted by tree-free wedding e-vites dispatched with a simple keystroke. The culmination of our contemporary courtship rituals—the weddings themselves—is the ultimate indicator of just how progressive this traditional rite of passage has become. As these four stylish couples illustrate, vegan vows are in vogue, while “compromise” need never enter the matrimonial vernacular.
