Veganism is Transforming Diner Culture

A recent feature in The Washington Post placed vegan-friendly options at the helm of the evolution of “diner culture”—in which customers often search for affordable satisfying comfort food. In addition to three soon-to-open area diners, the feature highlighted the anticipated opening of Fare Well—a vegan diner concept founded by vegan bakery Sticky Fingers’ owner Doron Petersan. Fare Well will serve a curated menu of diner favorites including burgers and pastas and Petersan’s acclaimed pastries, and will utilize vegan cheeses made from cashews, almonds, or coconut. Regarding the local diner scene, Petersan said, “DC for a lot of reasons has never had a lot of things that are associated with blue-collar culture,” and pointed out that customers are searching for “a richer culture in food and entertainment.”
