Wisconsin-based dairy cheesemakers Schuman Cheese recently launched vegan cheese brand Vevan. Vevan aims to replicate the traditional cheese experience—”minus that whole moo-cow dairy thing, of course”—for flexitarians, vegetarians, vegans, and those who are lactose intolerant. The brand used its decades of skill and experience in cheesemaking to create a product lineup that includes vegan cheddar, mozzarella, and pepper jack shreds and slices. The company rolled out its products to the foodservice sector in February and will begin retail distribution to major supermarkets, club stores, and local grocers this spring.

“We believe in creating amazing experiences for people to enjoy cheeses of all kinds. After realizing that many of the dairy-free options were falling short, we challenged our cheesemakers to use their artisan cheesemaking talent to create the ultimate dairy-free cheese,” Lize Willers, Vevan Foods Director of Innovation, told VegNews. “Vevan is the result and it delivers in every way, from the vibrant flavor to the smooth texture to the incredibly authentic melt.” Vevan plans to introduce new styles and formats of vegan cheeses in the future.
