English football (soccer) team Forest Green Rovers (FGR) named Hannah Dingley as the head of its youth academy—the first female to hold such a title in the history of English men’s league-level football. Dingley will be in charge of developing young soccer players who will be eligible to play for FGR and other teams. “I’m so excited to get started,” Dingley said. “It’s a great club, an ambitious club.” Dingley plans to instill FGR’s ideals and values in the young prospects she coaches. “I know it’s in the press a lot about veganism, which obviously I think is really important. I think if you dig deeper than that, it’s about principles and ethics and about treating people ethically, which I think is really important.” In 2015, FGR removed all animal products from its stadium, making it the first team in the world to play in an all-vegan stadium. In addition to promoting veganism, FGR owner Dale Vince—CEO of vegan electricity company Ecotricity—continually incorporates principles of sustainability into the team’s ethos, most recently by ditching plastic-based uniforms in favor of bamboo-based jerseys and shorts embellished with logos from the team’s vegan sponsors: ocean watchdog group Sea Shepherd and the stadium’s milk provider, Oatly.
