After opening several culinary schools and restaurants—most recently Plant Food + Wine in Los Angeles—famed vegan chef Matthew Kenney returned to New York City to open vegan pizza restaurant 00+Co. The eatery features a wood-burning oven as its centerpiece, open communal seating, and pizza dough made with high-quality 00 flour. Toppings include cashew cheeses, shiitake mushroom “anchovies,” truffled celeriac, and walnut cream, in addition to traditional vegetables and herbs. Aside from pizza, Kenney’s appointed chef Scott Winegard crafts both raw and cooked Mediterranean-inspired dishes such as millet “polenta” with Brussels sprouts and chestnuts, and beet ravioli with pistachio pesto and meyer lemon cream. Just one day after opening, the restaurant has already garnered positive reviews, including one from New York-based news outlet Gothamistwhich raved about the restaurant’s “gorgeous” pizza.
