Starbucks will launch two dairy-free versions of its longest-standing bottled Frappuccino beverage in May 2018. The two new drinks will be made with almond milk and come in vanilla and mocha flavors. A Starbucks representative tells VegNews that while the Frappuccinos cannot be certified vegan due to being processed on shared equipment, the new bottled beverages do not themselves contain animal products. Starbucks first launched almond milk in stores in 2016 and has since experimented with creating signature beverages with dairy-free bases—including a limited four-drink line launched this summer to promote Lady Gaga’s anti-bullying Born This Way Foundation. In addition to more vegan drink options, Starbucks debuted its first vegan-certified grab-and-go lunch option—a hearty Vegan Lentils & Vegetables Protein Bowl with Brown Rice—in July. Last week, the coffeehouse giant added a vegan passionfruit cupcake—courtesy of vegan shop Bunnie Cakes—to the bakery cases of select South Florida locations, with the possibility of expanding the offering to more locations in the future.
