Vegan take-out food orders increased by 388 percent from 2016 to 2018, according to research released this week by industry association British Takeaway Campaign. In addition to vegan food—which BTC designated as the fastest growing take-out trend—vegetarian food was ordered 137 more during that time period, with cuisines such as Pakistani, Greek, Persian, and Turkish growing in popularity. When it comes to iconic British dish fish and chips, take-out orders recorded the slowest growth at less than one percent. Stateside, delivery platform Grubhub released its “State of the Plate” report in June that showed orders for vegan food had increased by 25 percent in the first half of 2019, with orders for the Impossible Burger increasing 529 percent during the evening hours making it the most popular late-night snack ordered by Grubhub users.
