This spring, international food company Nestlé will launch plant-based sausages in a variety of flavors under its European brand Garden Gourmet and US vegetarian brand Sweet Earth—which it acquired in 2017. In Europe, the Garden Gourmet sausages will be available in March in Bratwurst and Chorizo flavors across 11 countries, including Austria, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and Switzerland, with versions for food service and restaurants available shortly thereafter. In the US, Sweet Earth sausages will be available in three flavors—Habanero Cheddar (made with vegan cheddar cheese), Asian Ginger Scallion, and Chik’n Apple—food-service versions of which will also be available. “After the huge success of our plant-based burgers and grounds, we’re now adding another favorite. These plant-based sausages really deliver on flavor and texture,” Wayne England, head of Nestlé’s food business, said. “Their juiciness and firm bite means you can cook and enjoy them any way you like, including grilling, roasting or pan-frying.”
Nestlé began its foray into the plant-based meat industry last spring with the launch of its Incredible Burger in Europe, where it is available in grocery stores and as part of The Big Vegan TS at McDonald’s in Germany. Stateside, Sweet Earth launched the Awesome Burger and Awesome Grounds in stores in September, with the burger hitting the menu at more than 450 locations of Ruby Tuesday this week.
