California-based brand Nutiva launched its Vegan Ghee—a plant-based alternative to the South Asian culinary staple—at retailers nationwide. While traditional ghee consists of clarified dairy butter, Nutiva’s vegan version features steam-refined coconut oil, organic avocado oil, organic vegan ghee flavor (derived from a proprietary blend of sunflower and naturally fermented plants) and organic turmeric extract. Similar to its dairy-based counterpart, Nutiva’s vegan ghee is designed for high-cooking temperatures of up to 450ºF and can be used as a spread, for baking, in sauces, for grilling, and more.

Vegan Ghee joins Nutiva’s diverse product portfolio of body care products, plant protein powders, and culinary oils. “Organic culinary oils have been a staple within our portfolio since we launched our first coconut oil in 2002,” Nutiva CEO Steven Naccarato said. “With the launch of our new Organic Vegan Ghee, we’re extending into a new space and are looking forward to bringing a clean, plant-based alternative to the market as a swap for the beloved dairy-based culinary oil.”

The new vegan ghee is available in a 14-ounce glass jar with a suggested retail price of $13.99 at Sprouts Farmers Market, Wegmans, Thrive Market, and on Nutivia’s website, with additional retailers to follow. Nutiva’s vegan ghee is also available in a bulk 29-ounce tub on Amazon for $24.99.
