This week, social media platform TikTok released its Top 100 trend report in which it named its top 10 content creators for 2020. Despite only joining the platform in March, vegan influencer Tabitha Brown secured the number two spot with longtime TikTok personality Charli D’Amelio, who currently has 101.8 million followers on the platform.

After building a following on other social media platforms with her entertaining cooking and advice videos, Brown joined TikTok—which she thought was mostly for teens—at the behest of her daughter, Choyce Brown, on March 7. Within one month, Brown amassed one million followers on TikTok thanks in part to a viral video featuring a recipe for vegan carrot bacon. “Thank you to everyone who embraced me, shared my content, and have continued to follow me this year,” Brown said on Facebook. “I’m so grateful to be on this journey and it’s all because of y’all.”

Wow I’m #2😱!!! Who knew that when I joined @tiktok in March, it was going to change my life🙌🏿🙌🏿 OOOHHH GOD I THANK…

Brown went vegan in 2017 to combat her struggle with chronic pain and became a viral sensation in 2018 after posting a video of herself eating a Smoky TTLA sandwich—a vegan BLT made with tempeh, tomato, lettuce, avocado, and Brown’s addition of a pickle—she bought from a Whole Foods Market deli counter. Since then, Brown has amassed millions of followers across her social media platforms and has made recent appearances on Steve on Watch (a web show hosted by comedian Steve Harvey); Red Table Talk (a Facebook Watch show hosted by Jada Pinkett-Smith and her family); and television series Ellen (where she helped actress Tiffany Haddish prepare her viral vegan bacon recipe). Brown is also the star of All Love, her own series which debuted last month on the Ellen Digital Network.
