Activists Sue EPA for Dismissing Factory Farm Laws

Animal welfare and environmental activist groups, including the Center for Food Safety, Environmental Integrity Project, Food and Water Watch, and the Humane Society of the United States, are pressing charges against the Environmental Protection Agency for its dismissal of a law that would allow the EPA to gather specific data on factory farms. This information, such as the geographic location of the farms and how many animals they have, would be conducive to enforcing environmental regulations and hold the animal agriculture businesses accountable for the water they pollute. George Kimbrell, senior attorney for the Center for Food Safety, called EPA’s withdrawal “willful ignorance.” “As long as EPA continues to turn an unlawfully blind eye towards this industry,” he says, “our waterways and communities will never be safe.”
