“Another cosmopolitan, please,” Samantha famously says to the bartender in episode seven, season two of Sex and the City. And just like that, a pop culture icon was born. Ever since, the cosmopolitan has been inseparable from the show’s legacy.

“I don’t know if there’s any other drink or even food that I could think of that is so closely associated with a show,” Jennifer Keishin Armstrong, author of the book Sex and the City and Us, told Refinery29. “I think whatever you think of as the caricature of [Sex and the City], the cosmo goes with it.”
