For the month of January, ice cream chain Salt & Straw will serve its “Vegandulgence Series” at all of its locations. At its Portland, Seattle, San Diego, and San Francisco locations, Salt & Straw will offer five flavors: Banana & Peanut Butter Tofu Pudding (silky pudding piped through banana gelato); Rocky Road with Aquafaba Marshmallows (chocolate ice cream blended with white beans, dotted with candied sunflower seeds, and marshmallows made from whipped white-bean brine); Lemon Cheesecake Crumble (cashew-based cheese blended with coconut yogurt and lemon zest and topped with almond crumble); Sunflower Butter Cups (sunflower butter blended with coconut cream and swirled with marionberry jam and chocolate stracciatella); and Toasted Oat Milk & Cookies (oat-based ice cream with gluten-free chocolate chip cookies and ganache). Salt & Straw’s Anaheim location (which is located inside Downtown Disneyland) will offer the latter three flavors in January. “Gone are the days when vegan implies a sacrifice. Every January, we proclaim the virtues of nature by developing incredibly indulgent, creamy, extravagant ice creams that are totally dairy-free,” the company states on its website. “That’s what Vegandulgence means to us: 100 percent plant-based, 100 percent decadent. This isn’t just dairy-free ice cream—this is something you’ve never experienced before.” The entire vegan series is also available for purchase in pints ($13) in stores and online. In addition to the Vegandulgence series, Salt & Straw offers permanent vegan flavors (which vary by location) such as Strawberry & Coconut Water Sorbet; Dandelion Chocolate Hazelnut Cookies & Cream; and Freckled Mint TCHO-colate Chip.
