If you’re craving ice cream, Ben & Jerry’s is usually a good bet. The brand debuted its first vegan flavor back in 2017, and since then, it has expanded its non-dairy range significantly.
There’s “Milk” & Cookies, Cherry Garcia, Chocolate Caramel Brownie, Oatmeal Dream Pie, and plenty more creamy frozen desserts to choose from. In fact, at the time of writing, Ben & Jerry’s offers no fewer than 16 nondairy pints.
But—for one Redditor, and that’s a big but—the brand does not offer vegan pumpkin ice cream. At least, not for humans. It does, however, offer vegan pumpkin ice cream for dogs, which, it turns out, is also suitable for human consumption.
“[It’s] literally just vegan pumpkin pie ice cream?,” the Redditor captioned a picture of Ben & Jerry’s Rosie’s Batch Doggie Desserts. “I wish [I] knew sooner!!! Only comes in doggie treat portions, which is difficult for me, as I’ve been searching for pumpkin ice cream since [Target] discontinued theirs. Thoughts on this??”
It’s true: Rosie’s Batch, which is made with pumpkin and mini cookies, really is vegan. It’s made with human-grade ingredients, too, including coconut oil, pea protein, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger.

Can humans eat Ben & Jerry’s dog ice cream?
“While Doggie Desserts frozen dog treats were developed specifically for pups and are not labeled for human enjoyment, they do use the same ingredients that you’d find in our flavors made for humans,” confirms Ben & Jerry’s on its FAQ page. “So they are perfectly safe for you to taste, as long as you like pumpkin and pretzels!”
The post attracted plenty of attention. While some were bemused by the idea of a human eating ice cream made for dogs, others were fully on board.
“I got some for my dog’s birthday recently (the PB flavor) and tried a bit,” said one Redditor in response. “It tasted just like the Netflix and Chill flavor. It is my favorite flavor, and I can never find it. I almost had a cup.”

Another added, “The peanut butter pretzel one is really good. I’ve made so many [people] try it, tasty af.”
Yep, just like Rosie’s Batch, Ben & Jerry’s second Doggie Dessert, Pontch’s Mix, is also safe for humans to eat. It’s made with peanut butter, pretzel swirls, and ingredients like pea protein, wheat flour, tapioca syrup, and coconut oil.
“Just ignore that it says [it’s] for dogs,” wrote the original poster. “It’s actually really good.”
Well, there’s only one way to find out if you agree. Find out more about Ben & Jerry’s Doggie Desserts here. At the very least, your pooch will be in for a treat.
