In early 2021, vegan brand Beyond Meat will release two new versions of its popular Beyond Burger. The new burgers are designed to mimic the types of beef traditionally offered by meat companies to give consumers more choice when it comes to plant-based alternatives. The first new iteration of the Beyond Burger will be juicier and meatier while containing 35 percent less saturated fat than 80/20 beef patties. The second iteration—which Beyond Meat says is its “most nutritious patty yet”—will be 55 percent lower in saturated fat than 80/20 beef patties. Both new burgers will be lower in calories and have overall less fat than 80/20 beef burgers and offer a comparable micronutrient profile to beef.

“I am personally thrilled to introduce this new Beyond Burger platform as it speaks so clearly to what our brand and company stands for,” Beyond Meat CEO and Founder Ethan Brown said. “Our commitment is to provide consumers with absolutely delicious plant-based meats that are better for people and the planet, no sacrifice required. These new iterations deliver on this promise, and I am immensely proud of our team’s ability to make such strong advances in taste, juiciness, and nutrition through our Rapid and Relentless Innovation program. Just as you can find different varieties of ground beef, consumers will now have more choice to satisfy their individual nutritional needs and preferences.”

Beyond Meat launched the first iteration of the Beyond Burger in 2016 and has since released a variety of plant-based meats, including Beyond Sausage, Beyond Breakfast Sausage, and, most recently, Beyond Meatballs. The brand is currently distributed at approximately 122,000 retail and foodservice outlets in 80 countries and is planning to launch its Beyond Burger at 7,000 locations of pharmacy chain CVS in January 2021.
