This week, seafood brand Bumble Bee Foods—known for its canned tuna—announced a joint venture partnership with Gathered Foods, the parent company behind vegan seafood brand Good Catch Foods. The venture marks the first time a major seafood brand has partnered with a vegan company and will result in Good Catch leveraging Bumble Bee’s sales, distribution, and logistics expertise to make its vegan products accessible to a wide range of customers at affordable prices.“This partnership is a win for Bumble Bee, Good Catch, consumers, and the health of our oceans. Bumble Bee has always been deeply committed to sustainable fishing and we have been actively working to manage fish stocks across our portfolio,” Bumble Bee President and CEO Jan Tharp said. “It is critically important that as an industry, we continue to find innovative solutions to decouple growth with environmental impact. Providing great-tasting alternative ways for consumers to enjoy ocean-inspired foods is a key pillar of our long-term commitment to ocean health.” Founded by vegan chefs and brothers Chad and Derek Sarno, Good Catch debuted its first products—vegan Fish-Free Tuna pouches in Mediterranean, Naked in Water, and Oil & Herbs flavors—last year and will launch new products this spring. In June 2019, the brand raised $10 million additional funding to open a new production facility in Ohio, which has the ability to produce $100 million worth of plant-based protein annually.
