Today, fast-food chain Burger King added the meatless Impossible Croissan’wich to the menu at participating locations nationwide—making it the first national chain to add the plant-based Impossible Sausage to a breakfast sandwich. While the Impossible Sausage patty is free from animal products, the sandwich is made with dairy cheese, chicken eggs, and non-vegan croissants and Burger King warns that the plant-based patty is cooked in the same oil as animal products. Burger King—which first tested the Impossible Croissan’wich at 139 locations in January—will offer the sandwich for a suggested retail price of $3.99. To promote the nationwide launch, Burger King will give away up to 100,000 Impossible Croissan’wich sandwiches with any purchase of at least $1 through its mobile app.

Burger King’s expansion of the menu item comes during a national downturn of breakfast sales at fast-food chains during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Last year, Burger King first partnered with Impossible Foods to launch the Impossible Whopper at 59 St. Louis, MO locations. After seeing an increase of foot traffic by 18.5 percent to those locations, Burger King expanded the Impossible Whopper nationwide and began testing various formats of the burger—including as an Impossible Whopper, Jr. and a kids’ meal option—late last year at 180 locations.
