A large-scale Salmonella outbreak has infected more than 350 people nationwide in past weeks and, at least in Minnesota, Chipotle Mexican Grill has something to do with it. A smaller outbreak in the North Star State has sickened at least 45 people, with 32 of 34 of those interviewed confirming to have had eaten at Chipotle restaurants throughout the Twin Cities area. The Health Department believes the outbreak is “probably much larger than the number of cases reported … considering the high number of restaurants involved.” Officials aren’t naming the source of the outbreak, but say they have switched out the suspected ingredient from all locations statewide. Chipotle communications director Chris Arnold said, “While this issue in Minnesota does not present an ongoing risk to consumers, we are committed to working with health department officials while they look to determine a cause.”
