Cleveland Latest City to Join Meatless Monday Campaign

Ohio’s second largest city has passed a resolution to encourage its citizens to give up the meat on Mondays and eat vegetarian. Joining other cities around the country like Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC, the city government initiative was approved in order to promote the health and well-being of its community, as well as educate people on the environmental and ethical implications of eating meat. City council member, Joe Cimperman—who sponsored the resolution—says that “vegetables are a big deal here, too. This is the breadbasket of Ohio.” The decade-long Meatless Monday campaign has swept the world, having been adopted in more than 30 countries including Australia, Belgium, Norway, Malaysia, and Kuwait.
