Today, Coty—one of the world’s largest beauty companies—announced that it has been awarded the Leaping Bunny certification for its CoverGirl beauty range, which sets a precedent for a global commitment to ending animal testing. CoverGirl is the largest makeup brand to achieve the certification from non-profit organization Cruelty-Free International, which certifies cosmetics, personal care, and cleaning brands under its Leaping Bunny program, a globally-recognized guarantee that a brand has made a commitment to ending animal testing for its products. To obtain its certification, CoverGirl met strict criteria such as implementing a supplier-monitoring system and independent audits of its supply chain and ingredient manufacturers. As a Leaping Bunny certified brand, CoverGirl is also not sold in China. “Consumers expect brands to be leaders for positive change, so today CoverGirl is taking a stand about making cruelty-free cosmetics a mainstream reality,” Ukonwa Ojo, chief marketing officer of Coty Consumer Beauty, said. “We know we are not alone in wanting a beauty industry that is free from animal cruelty and, working with Cruelty Free International, invite others to join us in turning these conversations into action.” Coty has already committed to attaining Leaping Bunny certification for least one more of its brands by 2020.
