Eugene, OR mayor Catherine “Kitty” Piercy has declared 2016 as “Vegan Awareness Year.” In collaboration with the Eugene Veg Education Network (EVEN), the mayor has made the proclamation to encourage community members to engage with businesses and organizations who support vegan choices. This initiative follows a similar move by Piercy, who previously declared Vegan Awareness Weekend in Eugene back in 2012. “We applaud Mayor Piercy for once again demonstrating her leadership and commitment to sustainability,” Lin Silvan, founder and executive director of EVEN, said. “This mayoral proclamation also empowers us all to align our lifestyles with compassion and nonviolence.”
